At Anchoreach CIC, every project is an opportunity to create meaningful, lasting impact. Below are some examples of the positive change we’ve made within our community, showcasing the people we’ve supported, the challenges we’ve addressed, and the difference our work continues to make.

Building Confidence Through Inclusive Music
A Deaf participant attended our sign-supported singing sessions with limited confidence in group environments. Initially hesitant to engage, they began by observing and gradually joining in through visual and signed elements of the session. As the sessions progressed, they became more confident in expressing themselves, contributing to group activities, and interacting with others. By the end of the programme, they were actively participating and helping demonstrate signs to peers.
Outcome:
-
Increased confidence in group participation
-
Improved communication through sign and expression
-
Greater sense of belonging within a mixed group
Reducing Social Isolation through weekly sessions
A participant began attending Anchoreach’s Hello Group feeling socially isolated and lacking confidence in group settings. They initially kept to themselves and found it difficult to start conversations. Over time, with encouragement from staff and the welcoming nature of the group, they started to engage more—first by listening, then by joining in small conversations and activities. As the weeks went on, they became more comfortable, building relationships with others and taking a more active role in sessions.
Outcome:
-
Reduced feelings of social isolation
-
Increased confidence in social situations
-
Developed new friendships and support networks
-
Improved overall wellbeing and sense of belonging

Learning New Skills
A participant joined Anchoreach’s sign language sessions with little prior knowledge and low confidence in communicating with Deaf individuals. At the start, they were unsure and relied heavily on watching others. As the sessions progressed, they began learning basic signs, fingerspelling, and simple conversations. With practice and support, their confidence grew, and they started using sign more naturally within the group. They are now able to hold basic conversations and feel much more comfortable communicating using sign.
Outcome:
-
Improved communication skills through basic sign language
-
Increased confidence in interacting with Deaf individuals
-
Greater awareness and understanding of Deaf culture
-
Enhanced sense of inclusion and ability to connect with others
